Originally from Papenburg in northern Germany, Markus first learned to play taiko in his adopted city of Edinburgh in 2009, joining the Dojo the year after, supplementing his training at the Dojo with workshops with various taiko masters. Markus also plays the Shinobue bamboo flute and specialises in the Shakuhachi, for which he has received his Shihan (master's license).

Markus's dry sense of humour & excellent navigational skills are additional assets to the group on tour.
