Tees Valley Performance Project

Three full weeks of teaching in Tees Valley in 2007 helps to kick-start a thriving taiko scene in the area, led by the Tees Valley Music Service. In 2008 the work was followed up with a week-long project which culminated in a performance by 300 secondary students performing on 30 taiko drums onstage - a record for the UK. The large-scale taiko performance took place at a music festival, alongside students performing dance movement choreographed by Wayne Sleep. Student taiko groups "Senshin Daiko" and "Trailblazers" have started up as a result of our work with Tees Valley, which includes music teachers from the Music Service travelling regularly to the Dojo to learn new techniques and new repertoire.
