Taiko drumming - "Wadaiko" - is an energetic, physical and highly choreographed art form. Originally from Japan, with roots going back hundreds of years and encompassing a variety of styles, rhythms and movement, this traditional folk art is now developing and spreading as a modern European art form.

Now is the chance for people here in Scotland to experience a full course of this exciting discipline which is energetic & fun & learnt alongside other taiko enthusiasts!

There are two course options, both are suitable for complete beginners but as a rule we try to guide first-timers to the earlier class. The course will take the participants step by step from the stance, to the bachi drumstick grip through to learning a performance piece.

Tuesdays 6:45 - 8:15 pm - "Kitsune"

An energetic festival-style piece using the upbeat and funky shichisan ("donko") rhythm.

Tuesdays 8:30 - 10:00 pm - "Buchiawase"

A traditional piece from Kanagawa Prefecture, where as part of a festival praying for plentiful fishing, the taiko players compete in this fighting taiko style, with the best players winning the best catch.
